The best fence for dogs in Florida yards

Diggers, jumpers and escape artists each need a different fence. Here is what actually holds.

The best fence for dogs in Florida yards

Match the fence to the dog

  • **Jumpers:** go 6 feet, not 4. Smooth-top vinyl or wood gives nothing to grip.
  • **Diggers:** add a buried kick rail or concrete mow strip along the bottom.
  • **Small breeds:** picket spacing matters. Standard aluminum picket gaps can let a small dog squeeze through — we can spec puppy pickets.
  • **Barkers and reactive dogs:** solid privacy fence cuts sightlines and helps more than height alone.

Material notes

Chain link is the budget-friendly choice for a big run and is easy to see through. Wood and vinyl privacy give calm and shade. Aluminum picket is the prettiest but is the least private.

Gates

Self-closing hinges and a latch your dog cannot nose open are worth every dollar. Add $300 per gate.

Leave drainage in mind — solid fences across a swale can trap water. We set panels to keep the yard draining.
