Chain link vs. wood fence for large yards and acreage
The two most affordable ways to fence a big property — cost, lifespan and upkeep compared.

The budget question
When you are fencing a big lot, price per foot matters more than anything. Chain link and wood are the two most affordable options we install.
Installed pricing per foot
**Chain link** - 4 ft: $17-$21 - 5 ft: $18-$22 - 6 ft: $19-$23 - 8 ft: $21-$23
**Wood** - 4 ft: $18-$21 - 5 ft: $22-$25 - 6 ft: $22-$25 - 8 ft: $26-$30
Gates are $300 each; removing an old fence is $225.
Lifespan and upkeep
**Chain link** is the lowest-maintenance fence you can buy. It does not rot, warp or need staining, and it handles Florida humidity without complaint. It gives you containment, not privacy.
**Wood** gives you privacy and a classic look, but in Florida sun and humidity expect roughly 10-15 years with upkeep — staining or sealing every few years helps it reach the high end.
Which one fits
- Big yard, dogs, budget-first: chain link.
- Privacy from neighbors, street-facing: wood.
- Mix is common: wood up front, chain link in the back.
