Do you need a permit for a fence in Manatee County?
Most residential fences in Manatee County need a permit. Here is what is required, what it costs and how long it takes.

Usually, yes
Manatee County and the City of Bradenton both require a permit for most residential fences. Your HOA may have its own approval on top of that.
What is typically needed
- A survey or site plan showing where the fence will go
- Fence height and material
- Contractor license and insurance information
- HOA approval letter, if you are in an association
Height rules of thumb
- Front yard: often limited to 4 feet
- Side and rear: commonly up to 6 feet
- Corner lots have sight-triangle rules at the driveway and intersection
Always confirm with your jurisdiction — rules differ between the county, Bradenton, Palmetto and the island towns.
